Biography:
Timothy F. Sweeney is a seasoned trial attorney and appellate advocate, focusing his practice in the areas of civil litigation, contract litigation, products liability, civil rights litigation, employment law, shareholder disputes, construction litigation, trade secret disputes, insurance and coverage litigation, intellectual property disputes, patent and copyright litigation, licensing disputes, collection disputes, criminal litigation including white collar criminal defense, and federal habeas corpus litigation on behalf of death-sentenced individuals.
A Cleveland native, Mr. Sweeney is a 1978 graduate of St. Joseph High School and a 1982 graduate of the University of Notre Dame. Mr. Sweeney received his law degree summa cum laude in 1987 from the Ohio State University College of Law, where he was honored with the Order of the Coif and served as Editor-in-Chief of the OHIO STATE LAW JOURNAL from 1986 to 1987.
Mr. Sweeney served as a law clerk to the Honorable Nathaniel R. Jones of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit from 1987 to 1988. Following his clerkship, he entered private practice at Squire, Sanders & Dempsey, a large, prestigious Ohio firm, where he worked in the firm’s litigation department for eight years and was a member of the hiring committee. In August 1996 he founded the Law Office of Timothy Farrell Sweeney.
Mr. Sweeney is admitted to practice before all of Ohio’s state courts, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
He is a member of the Cleveland, Ohio State, and Federal and Bar Associations, the Defense Research Institute, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is a Fellow of the Ohio State Bar Foundation and a life member of the Eighth District Judicial Conference. He is a member of the Cleveland Athletic Club.
